Shock shedding that occurs between 3 and 5 weeks after FUE or FAT hair transplantation causes anxiety in many people. We call this unpleasant situation, shock shedding, which causes demoralization by suggesting that the procedure does not work. Although the cause has not been fully determined yet, these temporary spills are considered as a natural part of the post-hair transplant process. I would like to share some information in order to ensure that my patients who call me with panic after the procedure and hair transplantation candidates who are considering hair transplantation are prepared for shocking hair loss. This article is for those who say, “I didn’t have my hair transplanted so that they would fall out”. Please read here!
What is a Shock Hair Loss? Why Does It Happen?
The most effective method preferred all over the world for hair transplantation is the FUE hair transplantation technique. FUE hair transplantation in its simplest and simplest form; It is the process of taking hair follicles from the donor area one by one and transplanting them to the bald area one by one. Traumas occur in the treated areas, although not on a large scale, both during the extraction and transplantation of hair follicles. The process between the separation of the hair follicle from the area it is used to and getting used to its new place is the phase of adaptation and confusion. The living parts of the transplanted hair are protected under the skin. The remaining parts of the transplanted hair on the skin surface are broken and shed. This situation is called shock shedding after hair transplantation and is considered a natural part of the process.
How Does Shedding Occur After Hair Transplantation? Should We Consider It All Normal?
Three different hair loss problems may occur after hair transplant surgeries.
As I mentioned above, shock shedding is due to the adaptation process of the transplanted hair. But what could be the reason for the spills in the donor area or the spills that occur in the untreated areas? We can explain this undesirable situation in the donor area after hair transplantation as the wrong and unconscious collection of hair follicles. At this point, the skills and experience of the hair transplant specialist come into play. We cannot accept the unpleasant image created by grafts collected carelessly and with a wrong-tipped punch device as a natural part of the post-hair transplant process.
The fact that natural hair begins to fall out after hair transplantation may be due to the transition of the hair to the resting phase following surgical trauma. hair cycle; It consists of three phases: growth, transition and rest. The resting phase covers the period when hair loss occurs. Due to trauma due to the surgical procedure, anesthesia applied to the scalp, and the nature of the resting phase, natural hair loss can be observed even if it is not treated.
When Do Shock Shedding Start? When Does It End?
After FUE hair transplant surgery, shock shedding starts approximately 20 days later. It should be known that this process, which peaks in the first month, can continue for 1.5 months. It should be taken into account that the time intervals given may vary from person to person.
When Does Hair Grow After Shock Shedding?
The shock shedding process, which is completed in about 2 months, disturbs the patients most visually. The patient, who is impatient for his hair to grow as soon as possible, can witness the formation of fine hairs after 3 to 4 months, although it is not satisfactory. A period of at least 1 year should be taken into account in order to obtain full visual results after hair transplantation surgeries.
